The G 4000 Necropolis at Giza , this ancient burial ground of the Old Kingdom was built after the Great Pyramids which surround it. These “Mastabas” (rectangular mud benches) were used as burial chambers for Relatives of Royalty, Priests, Viziers and High Officials. The complex lies in the shadow of the two largest Pyramids at Giza, the “Great Pyramid of Khufu” to the East, and this “Pyramid of Khafre” rising from the Necropolis to the South. |
