First Pyramid built by Sneferut at Dahshur. The Bent Pyramid is unique in two ways, its obvious angle change from 60 degrees to 45 degrees halfway into construction, and the fact that it still has most of its Tura Limestone casing intact. Because of its unusual angle, the casing stones of the Pyramid are much larger and more difficult to move, this may account for them still remaining today. During construction the 60 degree angle of the Pyramid was too much for the soft layer of clay the core rests upon, a change of angle was made to the Pyramid mid way as to avoid a total collapse. The Pyramid owes its preservation to the builder's realization of their errors in enough time to make changes to their design. This mistake also insured the builders their first success on their next venture, the Red Pyramid. The Bent Pyramid is the fourth largest Pyramid in Egypt.
